5 Easy Steps: How to Wear a Wig

When you first receive your wig, you may feel a little overwhelmed by the whole concept of having to wear one, so wearing a human hair lace front wig for the first time can be an exciting but daunting task. Whether you want to change your look without any commitment, or you have experienced hair loss and want to feel like the best version of yourself, you don’t have to worry. Relax and read through our top tips for first-time wig wearers so you can achieve your very own effortless style and wear it with show-stopping confidence.

How To Wear A Wig?

1. Prep your hair

The trick to your wig fitting properly is to get your natural hair as flat as possible. Having bumps in your hair will create bumps in the wig and may not make it feel as secure.

For short hair: You can wet your hair with water or apply gel or mousse to your hair. Comb your hair back so there are no annoying stray hairs.

For long hair: Tie your hair into a low ponytail and pull the ponytail over your head after putting on the wig cap. Depending on the thickness of your hair, braid your hair into two to four braids or cornrows. Evenly wrap the braids around your head and secure them with a tool.

2. Put on the wig cap

Starting from the back, adjust the wig cap so it fits securely against your hairline. (You want all of your hair to be hidden inside the wig cap.) NOTE: When purchasing a wig cap, try to choose one that is as close to your scalp color as possible (lighter than your actual skin color). If the wig cap does not match your scalp color, use foundation powder and lightly tap the tint onto the wig cap for a better match.

3. Secure with your product of choice

Wig Glue: This tool is a popular option among experienced wig wearers (and fans of lace-front wigs). It leaves a tight grip so you can rest assured your wig won’t slip. Apply products along the hairline, let dry for about 30 seconds (you can use a blow dryer on a cool setting to speed the process) before pressing the wig down.

Wig Tape: This has the same effects as wig glue without the worry of residue and toughness after a day of wear. It’s a great alternative for people dealing with hair loss or those who have a sensitive scalp.

4. Place the wig

You’ll want to use both hands when placing your wig. It may take a couple of tries to get the technique down, but the process will go smoother every time you do it.

1、Put the wig behind your head. Start at the bottom, right above the nape of your neck, and pull the wig over your head.

2、If you’re using glue or tape, gently press down on the wig hairline, so the wig connects to your own hairline.

3、If your wig feels just a little loose, some wigs have adjustable tabs in the back that you can use to tighten the wig onto your head.

5、Adjust the wig accordingly

It's important to feel comfortable on your head. A good way to test if your wig is falling off is to shake your head. If you feel some tilt or the wig is falling off completely, you may need to add more glue to secure it.

Once you feel the wig is comfortable and secure, the last step is to feel confident in your new hairstyle. There is no better accessory than inner confidence in your new look.

How to wear a wig FAQ

What About Lace-Front Wigs?

Lace front wigs are a popular choice among celebrities and influencers, and we primarily make them with real human hair. What's so special about them? They have a clear lace base that makes the hairline look more natural. A lace front wig is the first reason people will take a second look and wonder if someone is wearing a wig. It's also a favorite among wig lovers because you can section the hair however you want, whereas other types of wigs only have one standard section.

How long do human hair wigs last?

The lifespan of a wig can range from a few months to a few years, but it depends on the type of wig you wear, how often you wear it, and how well you take care of it. You can extend the lifespan of your wig by taking the following steps:

1、Be gentle: Wigs are more fragile than your real hair. We recommend that you comb your wig before washing it to avoid damage or tangling.

2、Store your wig properly: It is best to store your wig on a mannequin, pillowcase, or silk bag to avoid tangling.

3、Avoid over-washing: Using products designed for wigs to wash your wig is essential to extend the life of your wig. However, do not wash your wig after every wear. We recommend washing synthetic wigs every seven wears and real hair every four to five wears.

Is it harmful to wear a wig every day?

Wigs are a protective hairstyle that helps promote hair growth. However, always remove your wig at night to allow your hair to breathe. Don't neglect your hair while wearing a wig. Use oils such as jojoba oil and moisturizing products to help nourish and grow your hair.

Do wigs fall off easily?

If the wig is worn correctly and is securely fastened, it will not fall off easily. However, if your wig has air pockets, it means that the wig is too big and you need to choose a smaller wig.
